Cara Shonamon was born in Austin, Texas to Chuck and Carla Sunberg and at the age of 2 moved to Moscow, Russia where her family served as missionaries for the next 13 years.
She graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with degrees in History, Political Science, and Religious Studies. The summer following graduation she and her husband Justin were married and moved to Kansas City for her to attend Nazarene Theological Seminary.
She graduated from NTS in 2015 with a Masters of Divinity and was ordained an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene that same year. While attending NTS Cara served as Children’s Pastor at New Hope Church of the Nazarene in northern Kansas City, Shawnee Church of the Nazarene, and Flint Central Church of the Nazarene in Michigan. She was a finalist for the Corlett Sermon as a senior at NTS.
Justin is a science teacher who has a passion for food and fitness. Together they have two young daughters: Mackenzie and Alice. They also have a fun and lovable dog named Sally. They enjoy playing sports together and spending time together as a family.

Chuck Sunberg has served as a District Superintendent on the East Ohio District, Pastor, educator and missionary. He and his wife, Carla, were pioneer missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene to the former Soviet Union. They lived in Moscow for 13 years, where he served as Field Director for the CIS Field. At the time of their departure there were churches on four districts in five countries. He served as District Superintendent on the Russia North District, and was also a member of the Eurasia Regional Advisory Council.
On return to the United States Chuck served as Senior Pastor at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Chuck has taught classes for pastors throughout Europe and Central Asia. He is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University and has an M.Div. from Nazarene Theological Seminary. In May 2012 Olivet honored him with the Doctorate of Divinity.
He has served the church in a number of capacities including trustee to European Nazarene College, Olivet Nazarene University, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and Nazarene Theological Seminary.
Prior to their move to Russia Chuck served as senior Pastor at Austin First Church of the Nazarene, in Austin, Texas. During his tenure, George Barna featured Austin First as a “Turn Around Church.”
The Sunbergs have two adult daughters. Chuck’s passion is holiness and a desire for all of us to draw closer to the Lord! With God all things are possible.

Associate Pastor to Senior Living Facilities
Rachel has been serving Shawnee's ministry to senior living facilities since January 2016. She graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2016 with degrees in Ministry and Sociological Communication. She is currently pursuing and MDiv from Nazarene Theological Seminary and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Missouri Kansas City. She loves learning about God and the people God has created.
Rachel and her husband Matt are extremely competitive and spend their free time defeating each other at various board games.

Interim Associate Pastor of Youth
Amberlee Brinkman is from Marshfield, Missouri where she and her husband lived until moving to the area for college. They graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University and have lived in Olathe since 2012. Amberlee graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Family Ministry and continues to study at Nazarene Theological Seminary to pursue a Masters of Divinity. Her passion is to journey alongside teenagers and their families as they are transformed by the holy love of Christ.
Amberlee and Derek enjoy exploring the various cultures of Kansas City, enjoying nature, and being in fellowship with others.

Associate Pastor of Hispanic Ministries
Miguel Mendoza is the pastor of the Hispanic Congregation here at Shawnee.
Joining the staff in September 2007, Pastor Miguel has focused on introducing persons to Christ. His natural enthusiam and love for Christ is contagious.
Working with a core group of leaders, the Hispanic Congregation has grown to average about 60 persons. Pastor Miguel focuses on prayer, spiritual mentoring and discipleship.

Minister of Worship Arts
Mike and Dawn have been members of Shawnee Naz for ten years, leadering our worship for the last two years. Mike and Dawn have been in ministry for over twenty years. They have helped plant a church in Seattle, conducted outreach events for prisons all across the Midwest and are currently active in multiple marriage encounter events throughout the year.
